Trade Mission to India

Microbira Joins Prime Minister’s Trade Mission to India

Microbira had the unique and extremely worthwhile opportunity to take part in the two-day UK Government trade mission to Mumbai, India, led by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The visit aimed to strengthen trade and investment between the UK and India, securing major business commitments and opening doors for innovative British companies.

Strengthening UK–India Partnerships

During the mission, Microbira CEO Marianne Ismail joined senior UK business leaders and government representatives, including the Rt Hon Peter Kyle MP, Secretary of State for Business and Trade, and Jason Stockwood, Minister of State for Investment. The event featured high-level meetings, sector sessions, and networking opportunities with Indian officials and investors.

Marianne met Shri Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister for Commerce and Industry, to discuss collaboration in the pharma and healthcare sectors — two key growth areas in India’s long-term economic strategy. The Indian Government has set an ambitious target of 8% annual growth over the next 20 years, with healthcare innovation playing a vital role in achieving it.

Supporting Growth and Innovation in India

Microbira is proud to already have a microbial identification platform (MAAP-IR) installed in Bangalore, with four additional systems scheduled for delivery by the end of October. This expansion reflects Microbira’s commitment to supporting India’s growing life sciences and healthcare industries through cutting-edge technology and research partnerships.

The trade mission also highlighted India’s rapidly developing markets, dynamic talent pool, and global potential. With a population of 1.45 billion, India offers significant opportunities for collaboration, investment, and innovation in biotechnology and diagnostics.

A Valuable Step Forward

Reflecting on the visit, Marianne said:

“This was an amazing trip. I had the privilege of meeting the Prime Minister, senior ministers, and key investors. It is an exciting opportunity for Microbira and we look forward to see where it leads us in the near future.”

Microbira extends sincere thanks to all government officials in India and the UK for their support in making this extraordinary opportunity possible.
