Microbira Attends the Scottish Microbiology Association Spring Scientific Meeting 2025

Microbira proudly marked a significant milestone in April 2025. They exhibited for the first time at the  Scottish Microbiology Association (SMA) Spring Scientific Meeting. The Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa in Dundee hosted the event. This event represents an important chapter in our growth as we continue to raise awareness of our innovative MAAP-IR solution for rapid, reagent-free microbial diagnostics.

A Local Gathering of Microbiology Experts

The SMA Spring Meeting brought together leading microbiology professionals, clinicians, and researchers from across Scotland and the UK. The programme featured insightful presentations on critical topics, including antimicrobial resistance (AMR), antibiotic prescribing trends, and the latest developments in infection control.

Notably, key sessions included Prof Neil Gow’s opening talk on the origin of immunity to fungal infections, as well as discussions around rising MRSA infections, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium, and the future of antibiotic stewardship in care homes. These sessions underscored the urgent need for innovative diagnostic technologies in modern healthcare.

Showcasing the MAAP-IR Platform

At the exhibition, our team was thrilled to showcase the MAAP-IR platform. Microbira’s cutting-edge, AI-powered diagnostic tool that delivers species-level microbial identification in under 5 minutes. A key advantage is it requires no reagents.

Throughout the event, visitors to our stand engaged in meaningful conversations about how this technology can transform their laboratory workflows. Furthermore, we demonstrated how MAAP-IR supports faster clinical decision-making, and can enhance their laboratories’ in-house capabilities.

A Reflection on a Landmark Event

Reflecting on the event, Claire Hardie, Marketing and Operations Consultant for Microbira, said:
“This was a truly milestone moment for Microbira. Exhibiting at our first conference allowed us to connect directly with the microbiology community and showcase the real-world benefits of MAAP-IR. Therwe was enthusiasm for rapid, reagent-free diagnostics, and we’re excited to build on the relationships formed in Dundee.”

Looking Ahead

As a result of this successful event, we strengthened our presence in the Scottish microbiology sector. Additionally, it highlighted the growing interest in innovative diagnostic solutions that address global health challenges.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to supporting healthcare providers, laboratories, and research institutions. Developing cutting-edge technologies that improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare disparities.
